Petition here – please pass on. Just when you thought we had fought off unsustainable development at Markeaton Park in the 1980s, plans are in, to build a flyover and widen the A38, into the parkland/wetlands/trees. What climate emergency??

Derby/South Derbyshire Friends of the Burning Earth
Derby & South Derbyshire Friends of the Earth were set up 25 years ago and have campaigned on many issues including the current, long-running, Derbyshire plastics/biomass incinerator scandal. Now re-named. After a long fight of nearly 20 years, the burner has been built but has been closed for the last 3 years, due to gross air pollution and general nuisance to Derby people. Derby City Council has acknowledged that the incinerator and associated traffic will worsen the immediate Air Quality Management Area, (AQMA) for nitrogen dioxide. The AQMA for particulates was removed after QDF shut, but now needs reinstating, as a new woodwaste burning incinerator has also been built, in this highly industrial/residential area. Sinfin has the highest rates of lung cancer, in Derby. Life expectancy is also a full year less than the national average. Derby children suffer the highest rates of asthma and respiratory problems. Ella Kissi-Debrah, 9 yrs old, died from a severe asthma attack, caused by abysmal air quality in London, 3 yrs ago. More on -

Derby is one of the 6 UK Government Clean Air Zone cities, in which air quality is so bad that Air Quality Standards for nitrogen dioxide are regularly breached. In Derby that's the inner ring & outer ring road. The incineration company has admitted the Derby/Derbyshire Renewi incineration plant chimney and associated traffic, will also worsen air quality.
STOP PRESS We have received email confirmation from OFGEM that Renewable Obligation Certificates for the Derby/Derbyshire incineration plant, have NOT been secured, contrary to their claims
